Traditionally, celebrations to mark the start of the new year get underway with a lion dance ceremony, performed to bring prosperity and ward away evil spirits.
This custom begins in the lobby on 1 February at 11.08 a.m. with the dotting of the eyes bringing the lion to life, followed by “Cai Qing” where it must pick greens from a high point as a symbol of future blessings. These performers then move to the rhythm of beating drums as they weave through the entire complex bringing good fortune for the year to come.
