Volkspark Wilmersdorf

The Volkspark Wilmersdorf and the Rudolph Wilde Park spread out together in a glacial gully

Volkspark Wilmersdorf as a jogging paradise

The dimensions of the seamlessly merging duet are unusual: Only up to 150 meters wide, the green belt extends around 2.5 km long - a paradise for long-distance runners and joggers. It is also unusual, that both city parks are crossed by aboveground subway tunnels.

Two parks that guarantee variety

Although the two parks can be considered as a single entity, they are by no means uniform. Its character changes from one section to the next, linking a natural pond in the west to a representative ornamental square "Schmuckplatz" in the east. The most frequented are the central meadows east of Uhlandstrasse and the large playing area on Hans - Rosenthal - Platz. A mixed audience and young people from neighboring schools visit the parks.

From mini golf to perennial garden

The section of the Volkspark, which was built between 1933 and 1936 according to a design of Wilhelm Riemann, beginns on this side of the traffic junction of Blisse-, Uhland and Mecklenburgischer Straße. Near the Wilmersdorfer Lake you will find sports fields and a large lawn. At the entrance to Uhlandstraße you will pass by the club area of the 1st FC Wilmersdorf with the restaurant "Volkspark Baude". A small perennial garden is situated on the roadside, you will walk past a mini golf facility and a playground for toddlers.

Behind the sports area, the park widens out to a meadow dale framed by a narrow forest stripes. North of the lawn in the shade of trees you will find a place fitted with chess boards. From here you continue to walk on the bright yellow Volkspark footbridge, which spans the busy Bundesallee since 1971.

Firmly in the children's hand

Once again, a sunbathing area determines the park area. It’s surrounded by natural plants and has a slightly wavy surface. At the edge of the pedestrian bridge there is a dog area. The meadow valley is followed by a wooded area, which is firmly in the hands of children and young people: A large playground, a football field and table tennis tables provide exuberant pleasure in the shade of trees.
