Museum Brandhorst

Welcome to the Museum Brandhorst

Museum Brandhorst's presentations of its collection and temporary exhibitions are dedicated to central positions in art from the 1960s onward.

Currently, on the upper floor of the museum, visitors can encounter the substantial body of work held in the Brandhorst Collection by the American artist Cy Twombly, which is unique in the world.Comprising paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs, the presentation "Cy Twombly: In The Studio" draws an arc from the early stages of his artistic practice in the 1950s to his late rose paintings, which he personally chose for the Museum.

The exhibition "Tour De Madame" by the internationally renowned painter Jutta Koether occupies the ground floor and basement and runs until 21 October. As the first comprehensive retrospective of this prominent painter's oeuvre, the exhibition culminates in a cycle of paintings from 2018 made especially for the show. Both in size and arrangement, the cycle relates to Cy Twombly's monumental Lepanto group of paintings situated on the upper floor.

From 06 December 2018 and staged on the entry level of the Museum, we shall be presenting further works from the Brandhorst Collection within the framework of the exhibition "Alex Katz".

Based on the substantial holdings of works by this pioneer of Pop Art, the exhibition provides an insight into the diverse oeuvre of this ninety-year-old painter. In addition, the basement level of the Museum will be refitted in December 2018 to accommodate a theme-based show featuring works by Andy Warhol, Monika Baer, Damian Hirst, Mike Kelley, Sigmar Polke, Albert Oehlen and Laura Owens, among others.
