Enjoy the melodious sounds of the angklung, a traditional Indonesian bamboo musical instrument fit for both the young and old!
Come to this hands-on session where you get to learn how to play local tunes such as Chan Mali Chan, Rasa Sayang and Dayung Sampan on the angklung. Guided and accompanied by experienced musicians, the kids will also get a chance to showcase their new-found skills in a short performance.
About the Artist
Alicia De Silva is a composer whose musical interest includes the music and sounds of various cultures, its cultural context and significance. This has resulted in some juxtaposition of sounds and performance aesthetics of other cultures in some of her compositions, often resulting in interesting experiences for both musicians and listeners alike.
Together with her role as an angklung instructor, Alicia frequently uses her artistic experiences to (re)create and (re)define the music-making processes and learning in her ensembles.
