Jurong Lake Gardens is Singapore’s new national gardens in the heartlands, to be developed in several phases.
The first phase, Jurong Lake Gardens West, will undergo development from April 2016 onwards and is scheduled for completion in 2018. In the meantime, visitors can continue to enjoy the Chinese and Japanese themed gardens located within Jurong Lake Gardens Central.
Originally launched on 18 April 1975, the Chinese themed garden is modelled along the magnificent northern Chinese imperial style of architecture and landscape. Climb to the top of the Seven-storey Pagoda for a magnificent view of the Jurong Lake District, or admire the large bonsai collection housed within a traditional Suzhou-style courtyard.
The Japanese themed Garden is a large strolling garden showcasing a landscape style originating from the Muromachi and Momoyama periods of Japanese history. Explore a network of paths winding past the Guesthouse along Garyuchi pond, or spend some time observing the many bird species that have made the garden their home.
Jurong Lake Gardens Central can be accessed from Chinese Garden and Lakeside MRT Stations, as well as from Yuan Ching Road by car or public bus.
