The Progression concert series is MPPO’s flagship concert.
Held annually, the concert features Singaporean soloists as well as how far the orchestra has come since it was established in 2017.
Today, led by music director Lester Kong, MPPO is a 70-member strong community orchestra that has gained prominence through its performances and its outreach initiatives.
The fifth in the instalment, Progression V is propelling the MPPO a step forward with this bold repertoire.
The evening kicks off with Austrian composer, Franz von Suppé's, Light Cavalry Overture, a whirlwind of galloping rhythms and sunlit melodies, its exhilarating spark heralding the journey ahead.
From Austria, MPPO will bring it back home with the world premiere of The Colour of Gravity for Saxophone and Orchestra. Composed by Singaporean composer, Germain Goh, The Colour of Gravity paints a landscape of rich textures and expressive hues. This bold composition is written to showcase the vibrant artistry of saxophonist, Samuel Phua — a musician of boundless energy and luminous talent, breathing life into every phrase.
The evening will culminate with Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 1, a towering monument of the Romantic era. From its stormy birth to its triumphant finale, the symphony unfolds a world of sweeping passion, dramatic intensity, and hard-won glory—a grand arc from shadow to light.
