Amazing Star Montessori House

Building the foundtion for life-long learning.

At Amazing Star, they believe that every child is unique. The child is a sensitive, feeling and thinking individual who thrives in an enriched environment where caring and understanding adults respond to the child's needs. Every child learns best through play and concrete experiences. Besides preparing each child academically, they also prepare each child to be a self-confident, independent and responsible person crucial for his all round development.

They provide a well-established Montessori curriculum that blends well with traditional preparatory curriculum. In their specially prepared environment, the children are exposed only to purposeful work that includes the following areas:

Montessori

The Montessori Method emphasizes the uniqueness of each child and is a highly hands-on approach to learning. It encourages children to develop their observation skills by doing many types of activities. These activities include use of the five senses, gross and fine motor skill coordination, and concrete knowledge that lead to an abstract form of learning. Montessori materials are divided into the following areas:

  • Practical Life (self-help skills such as feeding, buttoning, pouring and more)
  • Sensorial (train and refine senses to distinguish size, texture and more)
  • Mathematics (learning to recognize the numerical symbols, counting and more)
  • Phonics (Pink Scheme, Blue Scheme, Green Scheme)
  • Culture (Festivals, History, Science and General Knowledge)
  • Language (Position words, Writing, Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary)

Chinese Language

Their Chinese language programme is specially designed to help the children build their Chinese language foundation in a fun-filled environment. Through language games, word recognition, sing-a-long, rhymes, reading, arts and craft and storytelling, it makes learning the Chinese Language fun and interesting.

Theme & Excursions

Every term the children will be introduced to a theme. (Eg: Fruits, Transportation, Underwater World, etc.)They will have in-depth information about things related to the theme and then complete a worksheet based on what they have learnt. At the end of the 10th week, there will be an excursion to a destination related to the theme. Art & Craft and Music & Movement are activities to reinforce and support the Theme for the term. Dough play, water play, physical education help enhance children’s fine and gross motor skills.

Computer and Multimedia

Since 2005, they have incorporated multimedia programme in their curriculum. Multimedia lessons and activities are specifically developed to appeal to children’s natural curiosity and interests and integrate important skills and concepts such as literacy, numeracy, music and art, in fun and engaging ways. Their schools are fully equipped with interactive technologies to incorporate this multimedia curriculum.

Programmes:

  • Montessori Toddlers (18 mths – 30 mths) - Design for sensorial and motor exploration, this program gives the child basic foundation for learning through play. The toddlers engage in ‘work’ that develops self-confidence and independence. A qualified teacher observes and matches the child’s abilities to appropriate materials and exercises.
  • Montessori Playgroup (3 yrs – 4 yrs) - Children are free to work at their own pace with materials they have chosen and to encourage both active and self directed learning. These activities also promote the development of social skills, emotional growth and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation. Under the direction of a specially trained teacher, children are free to enjoy the experience of learning, and learn to respect each other and the environment.
  • Montessori Workgroup (5yrs - 6 yrs) - The workgroup covers the total concepts of Montessori education and lays a strong foundation for primary school. They place special emphasis on preparing your child for future mathematical concept and language development. Your child’s knowledge will be greatly enriched by their wide scope of cultural activities.
