Many children love to read but how do you kick-start their reading journey?
Discover how you can prepare your child for reading through phonics, interactive play, arts and crafts, body movement and interaction with the world around them through stories.
Conducted by the experienced Phonics educators, Lydia Lok and Khushbu Porwal, this Phonics trial class will give you insights on:
- How a regular phonics class is conducted
- How they incorporate multiple intelligences and make learning phonics a fun experience
- The value of starting your kids on synthetic phonics at a young age.
*Suitable for parents of children aged 18 mths - 7 years old
(after the trial class, they will advise on the age-appropriate classes and timings)
Come experience the unique Multiple Intelligence approach to teaching Jolly Phonics! Developed by critically acclaimed Child-Whisperer Victoria Carlton, they involve all multiple intelligences in each class.
In each class, they focus on:
1. Learning the letter sounds (7 groups on the right)
Children are taught the 42 main letter sounds. This includes alphabet sounds as well as digraphs such as sh, th, ai and ue.
2. Learning letter formation
Using different multi-sensory methods, children learn how to form and write the letters.
3. Blending
Children are taught how to blend the sounds together to read and write new words.
4. Identifying the sounds in words (Segmenting)
Listening to the sounds in words gives children the best start for improving spelling.
5. Tricky words
Tricky words have irregular spellings and children learn these separately.
