Conflict in Play: Is it really about a stick?

Conflict in Play: Is it really about a stick?

Promoting peaceful negotiations - Positive change at the grass roots level

Nature Play has found that without the addition of toys, as well as simply being in an outdoor environment, that conflict is scarce. However, every once in a while one child decides, “That is MY stick!” when it is in another child’s hand.

Conflict in life is normal. Learning to handle a conflict is one of the key learnings for peaceful living. The best ‘conflict management workshop’ in the world happens in young children’s social or cooperative play – if there is appropriate adult guidance. The ways in which we support the child who is in conflict sets the pattern for how they themselves will handle conflict as an adult.

This workshop takes a deep look at:

  • the nature of conflict
  • how we can best support the child when conflict ‘learning opportunities’ arise
  • tried and tested ways to peacefully negotiate over ‘the stick’

About Clare Caro

Clare Caro lives in the UK with her husband and two daughters. She brings together her practical experience, research, knowledge and observations around child-led play, learning, naturally paced motor development, and the adult role in children’s play into her work. Her workshops are designed to offer a deeper understanding of the development of the child, ways to set up the ideal environment to support the child’s unfolding - and most importantly - very practical tools for the adults in their key role with their children.

If you would like to bring your baby to the workshop, please note that due to space restrictions Nature Play can only accommodate non-walking babies. Children may be dropped off at the Trehaus Atelier next door at $15/hour.
