Our Juniors’ Schoolhouse @ Thomson

We understand the importance of not leaving the choice of preschool care and education all to chance.

With this thoughtful intention, Our Juniors’ Schoolhouse was established in 2003. Firmly believing that the interests of our children are of paramount importance, we came up with the name ‘Our Juniors’ Schoolhouse’.

Since its establishment, Our Juniors’ Schoolhouse has provided our pre-schoolers with high quality English-Mandarin bilingual programmes and the finest child care services. Our holistic approach to learning and development has helped prepare the children physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, artistically for academic purposes and for life.

At Our Juniors’ Schoolhouse, we believe that quality early childhood education has life-long impact on our children. Hence, our philosophy is to nurture a child in accordance to his/ her unique ability, talent and potential. Our educators adopt pertinent teaching approaches which compliment children’s learning in order to build their confidence levels.

We place strong emphasis on having a team of passionate, dedicated and well-qualified educators to implement our education model which focuses on cultural diversity and bilingualism. To further provide our children with opportunities to experiment, explore and to encourage their problem-solving attitudes, we have in place exciting discovery themes, comprehensive literacy and mathematics programmes, coupled with hands-on approaches.

We would like to highlight Our Juniors’ Schoolhouse’s physical environment, an aspect which we are proud of. Located within serene and private neighbourhoods, our children are able to enjoy their learning processes with minimal external disturbances. Besides featuring a well-ventilated and bright environment, some of Our Juniors’ Schoolhouse’s branches are also surrounded by nature. These factors further create a conducive learning environment for our children during the curriculum hours.

In addition, we are well-equipped with outdoor facilities which are specially built. To name a few, we have a playground, sand pit and water-play feature to provide our children with a variety of choices to both learn and play.

Our Juniors’ Schoolhouse @ Thomson is situated in a well-ventilated double-storey detached house, is within a stone’s throw away from MacRitchie Reservoir which has an abundance of flora and fauna. This favourable location allows our children to be constantly surrounded by the sounds and smell of nature. One common activity for our children would be a stroll to MacRitchie Reservoir Park which provides them with more opportunities to explore the environment. We trust that the provision of fun and meaningful hands-on approach encourages learning take place. Our Centre is also equipped with a huge and well-designed outdoor playground to promote the physical development of children from all age groups.  The favourable physical attributes of our Centre, combined with our well-designed Juniors’ Curriculum, creates a supportive environment that nurtures our juniors to be confident and motivated individuals.

Our Curriculum

  • Math Programme

Our Math Programme introduces mathematical concepts through exciting stories that expound on fundamental theories. Learning is reinforced through hands–on activities, the use of Math resources, and everyday materials that the children can easily relate to. We also promote primary school readiness while instilling a love for learning.

  • Bilingual and Bicultural Focus

Literacy in English language is systematically nurtured. It includes vocabulary, phonological awareness, recognition of letters, words, print, comprehension, creative writing, enjoyment of books, and other texts . Our English-Mandarin bilingual focus and East-West bicultural exposure nurtures competent communicators in both languages. We believe that the key to cultivating children's lifelong interest in learning the Chinese language is to grow their appreciation of the Chinese culture.

  • Our Exciting Discovery Themes

Chosen over a wide range of subjects and topics that are developmentally appropriate, our themes include the study of Science, Technology, Arts, Music, and Social Studies. Our global perspective strives to enhance our children's appreciation of the dynamic world around them and promotes their global thinking.

  • Daily Outdoor Activity

Children are naturally drawn to playing outside, which allows them to explore their environment, develop muscle strength and coordination, and gain self-confidence. It also increases their flexibility and fine and gross motor skills! Our daily outdoor activities include water play, playground fun, cycling, planting, and chalk drawing.

  • Music & Movement

Incorporating music and movement helps young children with social interaction and language growth. Aligned with our bicultural focus, our children are exposed to many traditional and cultural musical instruments, which they learn about, play with, and sing and dance to the music they make.
