B2T Farmers Week

B2T Farmers Week

Did you know? Although chillis and eggplants are often considered to be vegetables, they are actually fruits because they originate from a flowering plant with seeds inside to produce more of the same item. From interesting facts to actual harvesting, children will be introduced to the wonders of gardening as they discover how simple experiments with light, soil, and water combined with tender loving care can result in fresh produce ready for harvest!

Featured Produce

21 – 23 November (Mon – Wed): Chillies (辣椒)
24 – 26 November (Thu – Sat): Eggplants (茄子)

Key Activities

During the programme, children observe the amazing process of growth, learn to appreciate the time needed to grow an edible fruit and hone their research and observational skills during documentation and painting. Our signature B2T method of project learning provides ample opportunities for early exposure to nature, science and visual arts – children will learn the cycle of plant life, create their very own chilli and/or eggplant clay sculptures and enjoy painting them to depict the growth of the plant. Documenting the growing process through observational records, they will engage in scientific thinking as they ask and respond to questions about the growing plant and enhance their cognitive and research abilities through conducting and recording observations. These hands-on activities promote a sense of environment and health awareness while enhancing their knowledge of the origins of foods.

At the end of the sessions, children will participate in the harvesting of the produce to bring it home to share with their families!

Learning Takeaways

  • Discuss parts of an plant, and what a plant needs to survive.
  • Understand the different parts of a plant and learn about its functions.
  • Make observations, learn to classify, compare, contrast and make infererences.
  • Nurture the ability to collect and organise information based on both observations and text, interpret data and make generalisations.

Bring it Home!

Depending on the child’s developmental stage and the number of days of participation in this programme, children will take home written observational records of the growing plant, drawings, still-life painting(s) of chillies and/ or eggplants, harvested produce of chillies and/or eggplants together with a farmer’s kit.

You may choose between Session I (8:30 am – 12:00 pm) and Session II (2:00 pm – 5:30 pm). Please note, that on Saturday only Session I is available.
