The Sounds of Celebration! – Stories in February
Bang the drums and clang the cymbals, because the Lunar New Year is here! That means feasting, lion dances, reunions, and laughter! This month, Kids Club brings you through the tales behind the traditions. From timeless classics to new inventions, join our storytellers on a journey through stories of family, love, and the legends behind the colours, costumes, and customs. It sure sounds like a celebration!

- 7th February, 10:00 am – The Story of the Fortune Cat by Storyteller Abby
During Lunar New Year, we see smiling Fortune Cats everywhere—but they were once sad. Find out why!
- 7th February, 11:00 am – 十二生肖· The Zodiac Race by Storyteller William · 故事人伟光
来听有趣的生肖赛跑故事，认识十二生肖的由来，和故事人伟光一起展开冒险！· Discover the Zodiac Race, the Chinese tale of how the twelve animals earned their places in the zodiac!
- 14th February, 10:00 am – The Post-Celestial Race Reunion by Storyteller Hilary
After the Zodiac Race, Max the Horse avoids home, but a hotpot errand becomes a warm New Year adventure.
- 14th February, 11:00 am – 神奇的新年福袋· The CNY Fortune Bag by Storyteller Abby · 故事人嘉希
两位贫穷的兄弟正愁着没钱过农历新年，于是，祖先显灵，给予他们一个神奇的新年福袋。· Two poor brothers had no money to celebrate the Lunar New Year, until an ancestor gave them a magic fortune bag.
- 21st February, 10:00 am – CNY SPECIAL: Nian, Nian Go Away! by Jeremy from Zip Zap Zoom Collective
Each year, Nian terrorised villages—until people stood together and learned he feared red and noise.
This story will feature a live Pipa player!
- 28th February, 10:00 am – When Luck Takes a Toss by Storyteller Nat
In a small village, the Chinese New Year excitement is threatened by an unexpected problem. Can they bring back the joy?
About Gateway Kids Club
Gateway Kids Club is a free programme held at Gateway Theatre every Saturday. You can also join the Arts & Crafts session or Free Play activities after the storytelling session! Each month, activities are focused on a different theme.
