Armenian Street Party



Party in your best kebayas and batik shirts as we kick-off the Singapore Heritage Festival with a bang - Peranakan style!

 

Grab tasty bites and dine at the tok panjang on the street, visit the bazaar for one-of-a-kind collectibles, and dance all night to nostalgic hits and jazzed-up joget.

Join in a wedding procession, and catch a fashion show and other performances, or get hands-on with nyonya-inspired craft workshops.

Visit Peranakan Museum Singapore before it closes it doors for renovation, and celebrate this vibrant culture as the whole street comes alive for a farewell party under the stars!

Mari buat lau jiat (let's make merry) this weekend at the Armenian Street Party!

 

MARI KITA MAKAN

Renowned Singaporean artist Yip Yew Chong presents a specially commissioned digital artwork, celebrating the food of the Peranakans. The animated illustration captures the preparation, dining, and riotous colours synonymous with the Peranakan culinary experience. Catch the artwork from sunset until late, daily until the end of March. This is the artist’s and the museum’s first foray into digital murals and projection mapping! 

About Yip Yew Chong 
Yip Yew Chong is a Singaporean visual artist who practises murals, canvas paintings, sketches, and installations. A self-taught artist, Yew Chong draws inspirations from his own childhood and everyday life experiences, telling stories of people and places.

 

THE IN-KUEH-DIBLES

Kuehs come to life in this interactive artwork by design team, Bunch of Monkeys! Meet our inflatable characters in the shapes of recognisable and colourful Peranakan kuehs, playfully scattered around Armenian Street. The kuehs invite you to discover, play, and bounce with them!

*The in-kueh-dible bouncy castle will only be available from 8-10 March. Suitable for participants aged 7 years and above.

 

THE PERANAKAN PASAR

Step into a Peranakan-themed night market, where you can explore a blend of traditional and modern flavours, and rummage through cookbooks, collectibles and more! Take home recipes and ingredients to recreate your favourite Peranakan dishes, or pick up tips and tricks at our cooking demonstrations. Get a Peranakan themed manicure or henna tattoo, visit our photo booth to dress up in Peranakan fashion and snap some memories. Or head over to the bouncy castle for some good old festive fun! 

 

KUEH ON THE RUN: ROVING THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE

Embark on a delightful adventure as three mischievous kuehs take centre stage! This interactive, family-friendly performance will take you on an outdoor exploration along Armenian Street, and indoors at the Peranakan Museum. Head over to the Peranakan Pasar for a taste of these scrumptious kuehs after the performance!

About Second Breakfast Company
The Second Breakfast Company (2BCo) is a not-for-profit theatre company founded by youths, for youths. They aspire to become a leading youth theatre company advocating for an inclusive theatre culture.

Dance along to music from the various Peranakan communities after hours on Armenian Street! Enjoy the ethereal sounds of the oudon Friday, keep up with the foot-stomping beats of the parai drum on Saturday, and sing along to Peranakan favourites with our senior singers on Sunday, to end the night

Thoranam are traditional hangings made of mango leaves and marigold flowers, that are used by Hindu communities including the Chitty Melaka, as decorations during celebratory occassions. Make your very own paper thoranam in this drop-in craft activity!

Did you know Armenian Street was the site of the very first botanical gardens in Singapore? Discover the heritage of the precinct and its long association with native plants, many of which are used in Peranakan cuisine and ceremonial traditions. Try your hand at making ma’amoul, a classic Arab Peranakan sweet treat. Better known in Singapore as kuih makmur, this delicious date-stuffed cookie has Arab origins. Learn how to shape and decorate ma’amoul using traditional techniques, with Khadijah Al Attas, President of the Arab Network @ Singapore.
