Uncover nostalgic objects salvaged from the author’s plane crash in the Sahara Desert and the incredible stories they tell.
The near-death experience, one of too many, would shape his views on life and love, so tenderly shared in The Little Prince.
Almost a decade before writing The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, in the company of his friend and co-adventurer André Prévot, was in a flight race from Paris to Saigon. The men would end up lost in the Sahara Desert for days. Despite the harrowing ordeal, Prévot saved several objects, including part of the plane wing and a shared thermal flask. Today, they are the sole remaining survivors of the fateful accident.
André Prévot’s objects are on display at The Little Prince: Behind the Story exhibition in Singapore Philatelic Museum. They belong to the Charles VII Museum in Mehun-sur-Yèvre, a medieval town in central France. Its curator, Philippe Bon, will share the origins and history of the objects as well as shed light on the tenacity of aviation pioneers such as Saint-Exupéry and Prévot and the unshakeable bonds they form.
