The Artground has a variety of age-specific drop-in programmes on the weekends that participants will get to enjoy!
From 23th May till 15th September 2019, we present Happy Homebodies – Happy Homebodies features creativity in the simplicity of everyday life. Make new discoveries about common objects at home which are beautifully transformed into an uncommon experience. The magic of this exploration is that it shows children new ways of looking at ordinary objects around us. From a simple dot to the intricate lines that characterise the different parts and objects in a house, journey through the little spaces which open up new possibilities for imagination and innovation! Entry into The Artground itself is free and donations are encouraged.
TAG Drop-in Programmes
Every weekend, The Artground organises a variety of age-specific drop-in programmes that participants will get to enjoy on a first come, first served basis, inside our Whitebox. Each programme will be charged at $10 per parent-child pair. You can purchase a single ticket, TAG cards for 5 or 10 + 1 sessions at $50 and $100 respectively at the reception. There is no registration for these activities as they are first come, first served. An announcement will be made 5 mins before each programme and the first XX number of children in the queue will get to enjoy the programme (XX refers to the age-specified & capacity of the programme, ie Shapes Splash! is for the first 20 children 4 years and up).
1st June, Saturday
- 10.30am: Little Green Thumbs by Cultivate Central - Worms Love Coffee (2 - 3 years): Children will get to meet the friendly creatures that live underground. Through observation of worms, and what they eat, the children will understand about compost, experience various sensory stimuli, and also get to bring back their very own coffee drawing!
- 11.30am: Little Green Thumbs by Cultivate Central - Yummy Microgreens (4 years and up): In this workshop, children will create and design their own upcycled pot, and mix their own compost/soil, and bring home their own harvest of microgreens!
- 12.30pm: What Does the World Need to Hear? by Alex Desebrock [Ticketed Performance, booking required, 6 - 12 years]: Australian artist, Alex Desebrock, believes that children are sometimes exactly what the world needs to hear. That their perspective, cutting honesty, creativity, humour and insight are not given enough recognition. This workshop will delve deeper into this big question and invite children to write and draw their answers to be delivered to the general public.
- 3.30pm: String Art Painting by Dyn (3 years and up): Make a unique postcard or greeting card by dipping string into different coloured paint and using the pulled string technique. The possibilities are endless.
- 4.30pm: Dance Playground by RolyPoly Family (4 – 8 years): Dance Playground is where we explore dance and movement through unusual play structures and get (a little) messy. This July, we play games that transform dance and movement into visual forms – watch the wiggles turn into squiggles!
2nd June, Sunday
- 10.30am: Cardboard City by Stan Pop (Pre-walking babies): An exploration for pre-walking babies to inhabit and extend their spatial awareness amongst the everyday materials in this City designed just for them.
- 11.30am: Terrific Tales by The Storytelling Centre Limited: The perfect introduction to the art of storytelling especially for little listeners.
- 2.30pm: TUG by Stan [Ticketed Performance, booking required, 18 - 30 months]: TUG is a performative play session for children between 18 – 30 months. Using the everyday material of strings and creativity in play to connect individuals and build relationships within each performance. Each session has a max capacity of 12 parent-child pairs. TUG is a project developed as part of Stan’s Artist-in-Residency at The Artground.
- 3.30pm: A Tiny Beat by My Piano Room (3 - 5 Years): A sharing of musical concepts and rhythm through music, movement and games for young children.
- 4.30pm: Ocean Creatures Sun Catcher by art@homesg (3 years and up): Instead of putting the plastic bottles into the bin, transform them into colourful sun catchers with a couple of snips and coloured markers.
