On 4 October 1883, the Orient Express took its maiden voyage from Paris to Constantinople (presently called Istanbul)—and so began a legacy of luxury! With Europe’s first sleeping cars, the Orient Express was a faster, more comfortable way to cross the continent. The décor featured wood marquetry, glass panels, fine leather and exquisite details. To this day, the Orient Express remains a symbol of luxurious and sophisticated travel.
