The Vivid World of Chinese Characters – From the Origin to the Future (A Journey of Cultural Experience)

 

Chinese characters convey the way Chinese look at the world.  Through the interactive exhibition featuring visual images, installations, interactive games and DIY workshops, you will explore the history and story of Chinese characters and find a hundred possibilities that connects you to Chinese characters.

DIY Workshops (April-June 2019)

1)   DIY Chinese Characters Stone Rubbing

Before the invention of printing, people used paper and ink to make rubbings from stone inscriptions so that copies of the inscriptions could be studied.  You can bring an auspicious idiom home in form of unique Chinese polysyllabic character with this traditional technique.

2)   DIY Woodcut Print of Beautiful Apsara

The flying apsaras of Dunhuang are one of the classics of Buddist art.  You can create a beautiful image of a flying apsara in form of printmaking, which is a very important category of Chinese art.

3)   DIY Stone Engraving of Chinese Zodiac

Learn about the culture of Chinese Zodiac animals and their oracle bone script characters.  You can create a lovely image of your only Zodiac sign with engraving and printing technique.
