Visit Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden and learn all about Barking Deer.
The barking deer is a shy animal. It is usually most active at dawn and dusk. It calls like a barking dog, mainly when sensing a predator, and courtship.
The male has small antlers while the female has no horns but tufts of bristly hair. Both have tusk-like canine teeth which are used for defense and in territorial disputes. Its common predators are stray dogs and the Burmese Python.
