The Short-nosed Fruit Bat is a common fruit and nectar-eating bat found in Hong Kong. The bat is famous for its tent-building skills, and it roosts under the fronds of the Chinese Fan-palm and the Petticoat Palm. It builds a tent structure by chewing the veins of the fronds, leaving the distal leaflets to collapse, thus forming a tent-shaped shelter. It performs an important role as a ‘seed disperser’ in the ecosystem.
