A Special Olympics competitor and the first athlete of the event to be elected to the Special Olympics International Board of Directors, Claiborne was born partially blind and could not walk or talk till the age of four. In the face of all these adversaries, she has persevered with utmost grace and spirit, completing over 25 marathons and has been placed in the top 100 women to finish the Boston Marathon, twice.

DETERMINED! is part of the activations leading up to the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world next year, welcoming 7,000 athletes from more than 170 nations to participate in 24 officially-sanctioned Olympic-style sports from 14-21 March 2019. The program is in collaboration with the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the US Consulate in Dubai.

Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 forms an integral part of local, national and regional plans to expand opportunities for people of determination in line with Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s shared vision of a unified and inclusive society.
About the American Film Showcase:
The American Film Showcase brings award-winning contemporary American documentaries, independent fiction films, and documentary know-how to audiences around the world, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers. Funded by a grant from the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and produced by the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts (SCA), the Showcase joins local embassies and partners to highlight the value of film in fostering understanding and cooperation, dialogue and debate.

TRAVEL BY CAR
From Sheikh Zayed Road, take the Al Manara exit (Exit 43) into Al Quoz. Go straight on Al Manara Street until you reach the traffic light facing Home Centre. At this junction, turn right. Continue straight then turn right onto 17th Street, before the Avenue. At the end of the road, turn left onto 6A Street for parking.
