What is a Capoeira Festival?
Capoeira as a Brazilian sport and art form carries in its tradition an introduction ceremony for students to the Capoeira community. This festival is also called “Batizado”. The Batizado is not a religious ceremony but a cultural and sport event, which to the beginning student is a mere formal entrance into the world of capoeira. During the Batizado, the beginning student will be given a capoeira nickname, an initiation cord and will play with the guest teachers who will welcome the student into the world of Capoeira. Non-beginner students will be receiving the next level up in the capoeira cord system.
