Bond & Build Resilience with Your Child

Bond & Build Resilience with Your Child

“Don’t handicap your children by making their lives easy.” - Robert A. Heinlein

If we want children to stand up to the inevitable challenges they will face in the future, we need to help children develop resilience at an early age so that they can keep going despite disappointment or frustration.

The children need to practice coping skills. Therefore, the children needed some challenges to practice these skills with. They may be encountering challenges in schools, home or even during social interaction which the parents may not be aware of. After all, Life is not about turning off thunderstorm and switch on the sun despite how much we would like this to be possible for children.

It is really about guiding children to be happier and resilient people so that they can enjoy the sunshine when it is around and dance in the rain where there is no other choice. Every child is different and so are the parents. The children require unique balance of support and challenge to rise to their potential and they cannot achieve these on their own. Parents will be encouraged to let the children experience life challenges in a safe zone so that they can learn to solve problems independently as they grow.

How did parent learn resilience as a child? How are they helping their children become resilient?

In the workshop, the parents and children are guided to learn the skills of resiliency in a fun manner with the use of LEGO bricks. The parent-child will communicate on what are the stress evolving the child now and how the parent can help.

When parents are playing with their children, they demonstrate the value of parenting effort to their children’s development.

This workshop has been modified to suit the literacy level of kids from 6 to 12 years old.

Teenagers are welcome to attend with their parents too!
