Little Kinder Montessori

Welcome to Little Kinder Montessori.

They have been around since 1999 to provide quality education and care for children, aged from 18 months to 6 years. Their aim is to provide a safe, creative and stimulating learning environment where your child can grow and learn. The habits and skills developed in early years will help them to concentrate and work efficiently for a lifetime, no matter where they go.

They are located in the Hillview estate. Enjoy their purposefully created outdoors with sand pit, water play, playground structure and varying wheeled toys. Their multi-age classrooms foster independence, their broad and stimulating curriculum encourages responsibility and respect and their dedicated team of staff help guidance at the child’s own pace.

At Little Kinder Montessori, they build the foundation for lifelong learning. They take the stance of a progressive and diverse approach to their Montessori curriculum while integrating Ministry of Education’s Nurturing Early Learners framework so that the children under their care are ready for what comes after their preschool years.

Their core curriculum is implemented using the full range of the Montessori method consisting of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics and Cultural. Chinese is introduced by way of a thematic approach and delivered in a multitude of ways - listening, reading, writing, building vocabulary, music and movement, story telling and daily conversations.

They also believe in the natural goodness of just being outdoor! They have a great selection of wheeled toys, sand and water play, bubbles and playground structures that is enjoyable yet safe. Additionally, field trips are also organised at least four times a year because children learn best from first hand experiences and field trips is all about learning beyond the classrooms.

Curriculum:

  • Sensorial - Children construct their knowledge and understanding of the world through sensory experience. The activities in the Sensorial area helps the children develop their five senses – visual, auditory, smell, tactile and gustatory. Some of these activities builds the foundation for future Mathematics work.
  • Language - They begin introducing pre-reading and pre-writing skills with frequent story telling and insets for design, scribbling lines and colouring, sand paper letters and large moveable alphabets. Phonics is also introduced at the stage. When the child is ready, they will scaffold the child’s abilities through tracing, copying and drawing.
  • Practical Life - Children have an innate desire to do things for themselves. The exercises of practical life are introduced to the children so that they are equipped with daily practical life skills. When they allow children to do activities like pouring their own juice/water, cutting fruit, spooning pasta from one bowl to another, it fosters independence, boosts their positive self-esteem and gives them faith in their own abilities to begin to take the initiative both in action and thought.
  • Cultural - The Cultural curriculum allows the children to learn about the physical world, and to help them realize they are part of an interconnected system of relationships. Their ultimate goal is to help them develop a sense of respect and responsibility for not only other people, but also everything in the natural environment. The Cultural curriculum introduces the children to Science, Geography, Botany, History and General Knowledge.
  • Mathematics - The Montessori Method introduced Mathematics to children in a concrete manner. The Number rods and Golden Beads are some examples of apparatus that helps build a firm foundation and true appreciation behind the mathematical concept. With this strong foundation, children will then be able to progress on to more abstract Mathematics later on.
