Explore our show on view, “From Cinderella to Sindbad: German and Arab Timeless Tales”
Organised by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, in partnership with Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Foundation, the Goethe-Institut Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, the literary exhibition From Cinderella to Sindbad: German and Arab Timeless Tales is a research collaboration between the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection Berlin (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) and the Arab-German Young Academy for Sciences and Humanities (AGYA).
This exhibition highlights the mutual influences, shared ideas, and cultural exchange between the Arab world and Germany through storytelling. Artifacts are shown ranging from ancient Egyptian papyri to the stories of the Brothers Grimm and Arabian Nights, as well as modern pop-up books and comics. For the first time in the region, visitors will have the opportunity to witness the ancient stories of the West car Papyrus or the only manuscript of the Banu Hilal nomadic Arabs, which is inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Additionally, guests will see the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Arabic handwriting, rare manuscripts and editions of the German Brothers Grimm, and the Arabian Nights classic.
Open every day until 20 September 2021.
