Korean Symphony Orchestra

Conducted By Maestro Chi-Yong Chung, Soloist Pianist Jae-Hyuck Cho

Established in 1985, the Korean Symphony Orchestra has been working to elevate the standing of Korean symphonic music, at home and abroad, and is the only house orchestra in Korea to possess the know-how and performance experience to stage professional opera house performances such as ballet and opera. Having held more than 40 annual ballet and opera performances over the years, it continues to solidify and expand its repertoire every year while maintaining an unrivaled reputation in music for ballet and opera in Korea.
One of the most sought-after conductors of his generation in Korea, Chi-Yong Chung is highly regarded for his vivid interpretations, deep musical insights, strong ensemble leadership, and virtuoso baton technique. In particular, he is well-known as a specialist in modern music and Korean composers’ new works, including that of Isang Yun, of which Chung is the foremost champion. Chung has led the Korean premieres of numerous works, including Symphony No.1, Engel in Flammen: Memento for Orchestra with Epilogue, as well as operas such as Der Traum des Liu-Tung and Die Witwe des Schmetterlings.
Acclaimed soloist, Jae-Hyuck Cho, is one of the most active concert pianists in Korea, making over sixty appearances on stage annually. He has been described as “a pianist who is nearing perfection with extraordinary breadth of expression, flawless technique and composition, sensitivity and intelligence, insightful and detailed playing without exaggeration.”
This highly anticipated concert will feature three works: Young Jo Lee’s Arirang Festival for Orchestra, Franz List’s Piano Concerto No.1 in E-flat Major, S.124 and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No.8, Op.88.
