Al Malid is a traditional art that embodies the cultural heritage of the UAE and reinforces Emirati values. This practice is connected to the religious and social occasions that strengthen the fabric of Islamic social interactions.
The roots of Al Malid are traced to Sufi chanting ceremonies, known to Arabs and Muslims since the 9th century AD. The recitation of poems recounts the birth and life of Prophet Mohammed, and its performance may demonstrate gratitude to God, the fulfillment of a vow, or a personal inclination toward praise.
