Gallery 9’s winter film programme presents ‘Mur Murs (Mural Murals)’ by Agnes Varda, programmed in conjunction with the exhibition ‘Pacita Abad: I Thought the Streets Were Paved with Gold’.
Narrated by Agnes Varda, Mur Murs is an exploration of the vibrant public murals around Los Angeles, California in the 1980s. Moving through the city - from Venice Beach to Watts- Varda interviews artists and captures the spectacular and often socially critical murals they produce. The film is at once a catalogue of striking artworks, a portrait of the city’s diverse communities, as well as a barometer of the social issues of the time.
Playing at Jameel Arts Centre in Gallery 9, the film screens on:
