Tashkeel Spring Camp 2020



Use your Spring break to cultivate creative skills.

 

In 3-hour sessions, learn about various art and design disciplines through age-specific making tutorials and group discussions.

  • Explore disciplines such as printmaking, papercrafts and clay, among others.
  • Taught by practicing artists, designers and makers in the UAE.
  • Breaktime snacks and all materials included.

*Limited places to ensure small groups for 1:1 guidance.

Sunday, 29 March: Layered Tiles
In this collaborative workshop, combine drawn tile designs to form new and intricate patterns with others in the group. Exercise collaborative and generative modes of thinking and designing, focusing on possibilities and the process as a priority over a definite result.

Monday, 30 March: Basics of Origami
Explore origami (the art of paper folding) using a square piece of paper with a different range of media. Led by Muna Al Marashi, create basic shapes of animals and find your own personal methods of applying colours onto your creations.

Tuesday, 31 March: Exploring Natural Dyes
Gain traditional knowledge and learn about our environment. Explore how to create dyes using natural and organic materials and see how they behave on different types of papers and fabrics. Discover the colours that can be obtained by a range of dye-producing plants grown across the region. Take home your own elaborate sample book of dyes.

Wednesday, 1 April: Catapults
By building a catapult from materials including wood and rubber bands, find out what forces act on an object, how they affect it to create the projectile motion, and how the angle affects the flight. Learn how to use tools safely and how to take accurate measurements.

Thursday, 2 April: Self Portraits
This workshop is for young enthusiasts who love painting portraits. Paint your own portrait through observation and think about ways of representing yourself uniquely with a step-by-step process to create a memorable work of art.

Wednesday, 1 April: Light Signal Model
An introduction to coding and how to connect electric circuits and how to use Arduino and electric boards. Make a fully functional electric signal that uses sequences and time intervals. Understand how connection boards work and how to program an Aurduino microcontroller.

Thursday, 2 April: Painting with Collage
Create a collaged painting based on a theme or collection of memories. An imagined space will be the key focus of this workshop. Learn the use of colour, light, tone and shadow.
