Nature Play: West Singapore Group

Nature Play: West Singapore Group

Nature Play® is child-led play, for all ages, every week, all weather, all seasons and its free

When: Every Friday morning, at 9:15am. Please visit the facebook group for weekly updates.
While there is a start time, there is no specific end time for the session. You are free to stay for as long as you wish, and free to leave whenever it feels right for you and your child, depending on your energy levels, the weather, and how you feel.

Meeting Point: At the Dairy Farm Nature Park’s Car Park, met by the grassy bank at the side nearest to The Salvation Army - Praisehaven Mega Family Thrift Store.

What to Bring: A picnic mat, a small healthy snack to share, water or tea, comfortable walking shoes and sun hat, wet weather gear and optional ziplock bags to keep your things dry should it rain, and an extra set of clothing if you wish.

What to Leave: Being an eco-friendly park, Nature Playplaese leaves no trace. Make sure you take your rubbish - including anything biodegradable as it changes the soil pH. Please also ensure that logs which have been upturned during play are returned to their original position. This is to protect micro habitats, minimise disturbance and maintain the clear paths, often marked using logs.

What to Expect: Gather at the meeting point at Carpark A and wait for everyone to arrive. Take a short walk along the main road to a yellow barrier and a “Dairy Farm Quarry” sign post marking the start of the trail. This 'slow walk' to the base will bring on a gentle climb along a granite path that is flanked by overgrowth and tropical trees. As getting closer to the base, the terrain chances to rocky and sandy undulations, leading to slightly softer and mushier grounds which eventually bring to a vast field overlooked by limestone cliffs. When you get to the base, there is an overhead shelter of low, leafy trees where you set up the mats, and watch the children enjoy the low branches and small boulders, as well as other features facilitating play for all ages. The path is not very stroller-friendly, so Nature Play would recommend using a sling or carrier for children not ready to walk themselves.

Nature Play® is about creating a space for the children to lead their own play, and a place for the adults to learn how to support that.
'Child-led play' means each child is completely free to follow his/her own play urges while, at the same time, respecting others. Successful child-led play depends on observing behavioural boundaries, such as no violent or aggressive behaviour. Both children and adults are asked to help keep Nature Play® a safe and calm place for everyone.
Your baby... In the early years of your baby's life the brain operates in the frequency ranges used in hypnosis - delta and theta. These are pure download states, downloading EVERYTHING at 40 million bits per second! Just by being outside, on the earth, in nature, your child has the opportunity to download everything around them in the natural environment.
In order for сhildren to bond with nature and the earth, they must spend time outside.
Your toddler... Children need to play for their brains to grow to their full potential, to unfold their intelligences, to evolve their imagination and creativity.  Please don't bring any toys into the woods, there are plenty of 'sausages', 'horses', 'houses' etc there already.
