What is a Children's Museum?

Children’s museums are an informal education venue for families. They are child-centered, offering developmentally-appropriate exhibits and programs that explore a variety of topics. Exhibits are interactive and hands-on, motivating play-based learning experiences that differ from those at home or at school.

  • CHILD-INITIATED PLAY: Children are free to stay at one exhibit or to explore where their interests take them.
  • PLEASE TOUCH: Visitors are encouraged to touch and interact with the exhibits.
  • OPEN-ENDED: Numerous possibilities help to ignite children’s curiosities.
  • CURATED CONTENT: A range of diverse subjects are carefully researched and represented in the exhibits.
  • BUILDING FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS: Experiences and resources foster life-long learning across generations
