Renowned competition winner Alexander Shtarkman will perform piano classics including Bach, Schumann and Ravel.
Known as “a perfect model of a well-designed solo concerto”, Bach’s Italian Concerto is an attempt at recreating the elements of concerto style in microcosm. Kreisleriana is a very dramatic work which Schumann himself called it “my favourite work”. Shtarkman will also perform one of Medtner’s finest piano works, Sonata tragica in the Forgotten Melodies cycle. It is described as one of the most difficult pieces ever written for the piano.
Shtarkman was awarded the First Prize of the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, Italy. Since then, he performed extensively in Europe, Asia, South and North Americas. He is a frequent guest performer at the prestigious Great and Small Halls of the Moscow Conservatory. Since 2002, Shtarkman has been serving as a member of the piano faculty at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
