DUCTAC is a live and visual arts space, with an aim to give everyone the chance to learn and develop in an environment designed to showcase their talents
The Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre (DUCTAC) is the first modern, non-profit, cross-community creative centre in the Gulf, built to international specifications. It was officially opened in November 2006, by HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. This flagship project was the brainchild of local theatre-lovers and business people who recognized the need for an entertainment and educational centre for the community and future generations of Dubai. In addition, the Centre is host to over 89 classes per week, and many national and international shows, artists and performances. DUCTAC also offers creative bespoke teambuilding workshops for businesses. DUCTAC has the following facilities.
Centrepoint Theatre
This state of the art Theatre, tiered on two levels and featuring a 120m2 (1291 ft2) proscenium stage. It has a 543 seat capacity.
Kilachand Studio
The Kilachand Studio Theatre is an intimate space ideal for smaller performances, seminars, experimental theatre and community productions. Kilachand has flexible seating that can be configured into various styles, including to a flat-floor empty space and raked seating of 151 seats.
Gallery of Light
The Gallery of Light is a large, contemporary art gallery space situated in a prime strategic position in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The gallery is dedicated to working with under-represented, emerging and established artists and curators, and to exhibiting arts practice that is evolving and experimental. The space plays host to all genres of contemporary art including painting, print work, digital art, experimental film and video, sound art, sculpture, design work and more. The gallery has held exhibitions featuring 2013 UAE Venice Biennale artist Mohammed Kazem, Hassan Sharif, Ebtisam Abdulaziz, William Kentridge, Sara Al Haddad, Manal Al Dowayan, Tarek Al Ghusein and Ephrem Solomon, amongst others.
Rehearsal and dance studios
There are 3 rehearsal studios specifically equipped with dance and sound equipment, floor to ceiling mirrors, ballet bars/hand rails, sprung floors and sound proofing.
Balcony lounge
The Balcony Lounge is situated on the upper level of the Theatre building and can be configured to suit a number of casual or formal settings and is ideal for conferences, corporate gatherings, workshops and large scale interviews. With access to an outdoor terrace area, The Balcony Lounge is also ideal for serving food and beverages at pre and post show events, as well as during show intermissions.
Art Studios
The Arts Centre building comprises: Fully equipped white wall Visual Arts Gallery / Exhibition Hall Pottery Studio with firing kilns Mosaic Workshop 14 Art Studios ranging in size and capacity These spaces are available for visual arts exhibition, product launches, seminars, conference breakout rooms, arts workshops, language classes and so on.
