The Jameel Arts Centre holds together a series of tours and workshops for children
The workshops feature a guided tour of the galleries and a discovery journey of artworks followed by creative hands-on activities, unique to each visit and led by artists and educators.

This session is held by fashion designer, Faissal El-Malak. Inspired by Naqsh Collective, one of the Jameel Prize 5 finalists, this workshop is themed around traditional Palestinian embroidery and patterns. Participants will explore this process of pattern-making by creating a contemporary composition of a traditional qabbeh (collar neckline panel). This will be composed by using wooden stamps to construct motifs on paper that tell stories through the use of symmetry, form and colour.

Faissal El-Malak is a Palestinian designer brought up between Montreal and Doha and trained as a fashion designer in Paris’s Atelier Chardon Savard. El-Malak has developed his contemporary Middle Eastern design identity by bridging traditional artisan work with modern design. With a first collection incorporating Yemeni handwoven textiles, his latest seasons focus of traditional handwoven fabrics from the Medina of Tunis and the cotton jacquards of Upper Egypt where he has worked closely with the artisans to develop modern interpretations of their textile and silver jewelry.
