smartSTART is a 4 day program run by a highly trained speech and language therapist and an occupational therapist to prepare children to be school ready.
Time: Sunday through Wednesday, 9am-12pm
Location: kidsFIRST Medical Center and Safa Community School
Aimed at 4-6 year olds.
smartSTART camp focuses on the following skills:
- Cognitive: learning about shapes, colors, sizes, letters, and numbers
- Fine motor: developing hand skills, drawing shapes, writing own name & cutting
- Social: making friends, turn taking, communicating, playing with other children
- Self-help: opening lunch boxes & food wrappers, managing shoes and socks, locating school bag, organization
- Language: following instructions; expressing themselves using words/gestures
- Early literacy: letters, numbers, phonics, playing with words & sounds within words
- Coordination: hand-eye, jumping, running, relays and brain gym activities
