A Learning Support Assistant (LSA) has an important impact on the development of inclusive classrooms for students of determination.
LSA’s should be trained in using different approaches to lower barriers to learning, and to facilitate student engagement and participation within relevant and meaningful learning opportunities.
The objective of this training program is to develop the skills of LSA’s to help students of determination focus, communicate, participate in class, socialize, control their behavior and learn independence.
This is accomplished using the principals of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) by finding opportunities to practice skills in a functional way throughout the day.
The LSA will be trained on:
- How to manage problem behavior
- Assisting with academic tasks
- Facilitate classroom / group participation and appropriate socialization
- Strategic prompting / fading techniques
- The importance of IEP’s and curriculum modifications and accommodations
By completing this 20 hour training, LSA’s will have the necessary tools they need to ensure students of determination obtain the most they can from the inclusive educational environment, to enable them to become confident learners, and participants will receive a KHDA Certificate of Completion for the course.
