This October half term, the Courtyard Playhouse is inviting children to step away from the screen and into stories, imagination and the world of theatre with its Half Term Camps. Across two weeks, children will explore beloved books, create their own characters and stories, and discover what they can do when they are given the space to play.

From 12–16 October and 19–23 October, the Playhouse will welcome kids aged 4-14 for a week of drama, storytelling and creative play, led by the theatre’s experienced drama instructors.

  • For the youngest campers (4-7), this year’s theme is “Kindness Makes Our Circle Bigger!” Using picture books including Strictly No Elephants by Lisa Mantchev, Can I Join Your Club? by John Kelly, I Walk with Vanessa by Kerascoët, and The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson, children will explore stories about friendship, belonging, inclusion and finding the courage to make room for others. Each story becomes a starting point for theatre games, role-play, movement, mime and creative activities.
  • Junior Actors (8-11) will head to the wizarding world with Harry Potter. Through drama games and performance exercises, they’ll build confidence, collaboration, communication and the ability to think on their feet.
  • For Young Performers (12-14), the adventure begins with Brandon Sanderson’s Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians. Campers will dive into a world of mischievous librarians, unusual heroes and fantastical adventures while developing their performance skills, storytelling instincts, and confidence on stage.

Across all age groups, the focus is on more than putting on a show. Children learn to listen, collaborate, make creative choices, embrace mistakes and tell stories together — all within the supportive environment of a real working theatre.
