Introduce your child to the wonderful world of improvisation!
Introduce your child to the wonderful world of improvisation! The Courtyard Playhouse's Summer Camp for Young Improvisers is a fast-paced, exciting week of theatre that will give performers aged 8-11 a solid grounding in the different styles of improv that dominate the writing, acting and comedy worlds today.
Improvisation has been popularised by the TV show Whose Line is it Anyway? and is a skill learned by performers, teachers, business managers, creative experts and children all around the world. It’s also a lot of fun!
Summer camp will introduce the basics of improvisation through playing drama games and exploring a variety of improv exercises that unleash children’s natural creativity and humour. It will be a week filled with self-expression and spontaneity, where children will learn to be better listeners and storytellers – skills they can take back to school after summer is over.
Children will explore characterisation, stagecraft and storytelling, all inspired by their imaginations, and in a thrilling finale to the week, they’ll end with a showcase, performed by Young Improvisers in front of invited friends and family.
Improv is a great way to become a better risk-taker and increase self-confidence, as well as being a wonderful introduction to theatre and performance. The Courtyard Playhouse's beautiful venue and experienced instructors offer every child a warm, welcoming place to start that journey. Plus, it’s exciting, enjoyable and a great way to make new friends!
