Colorful Leaps with Zahra Jewanjee
Khayal: Community storytime. Encourage your children to read for fun through an engaging story time and craft with local bookstore, Early Starters.
Storytime can be enjoyed by the whole family! The session will start out with an interactive reading followed by a related and themed craft.
In this season, Warehouse421 and Khayal will be featuring the coloring book series, Colorful Leaps. It aims to introduce young audiences to inspirational figures in the creative industry of the UAE. The series includes writers, curators, creative practitioners , architects, singers, and photographers. Each of these coloring books features illustrations and extra fun facts and may include biographical references of their lives in relation to the UAE.
The workshop:
Art is made in different ways, one of which we will explore by making Yarn Paintings! Paint without paint, using yarn to create a specific picture or design of your choice.
Storytime will be held in English and Arabic.
Yasmine Badran:
Yasmine is the owner of Early Starters. She grew up around books her whole life, as her father was in the publishing business. Her lifelong dream was to open her own independent bookstore that would host the community in more than one way.
Zahra Jewanjee:
Zahra Jewanjee (B. Pakistan 1983) is an artist and educator living and working in the UAE. She received her BFA from the National College of Arts, Pakistan, and MFA in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, USA. She is a recipient of the Salama Bint Hamdan Emerging Artist Fellowship and a Full Scholarship, Abu Dhabi 2016. Zahra has shown in Karachi, Lahore, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, London, Gdansk, New York, and Providence. Her work was featured in ‘Dimensions of Citizenship’ for the Venice Architecture Biennial – US Pavilion 2018, RISD NatureLab, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, MAS Context Chicago, Guernica Magazine, and among other publications. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at the American University in Dubai.

From Abu Dhabi City: Follow the (E10) or Corniche Street towards Port Zayed (Secondary Entrance). Join 20th Street and at the 2nd roundabout turn left.
From Dubai (Travelling on E11): Take Saadiyat Island / Yas Island exit onto Sheikh Khalifa Highway (E12), Continue onto Sheikh Khalifa Highway following the signs for Port Zayed (Secondary Gate). Join 20th Street, and at the 2nd roundabout, turn left.
