Winter 2023/2024 Study Camps by British Council Singapore

The British Council, renowned for its expertise in English language education, presents a range of enriching courses designed for students from Nursery 1 to Secondary levels. With a team of internationally qualified teachers, your child will experience a nurturing and dynamic learning environment, fostering their success at every stage of their educational journey.

Here, children study in small groups divided by age and the instructors use all of their knowledge and experience to create learning programmes that are interesting, informative, and engaging so that children have fun in every lesson.

Each season, The British Council prepares new interesting, and well-rounded enrichment courses for students of all ages and levels, and this winter is not an exception!

The distinguishing feature of The British Council’s Winter Camps is that polishing written and oral English skills is not the purpose of learning, but a way to gain new knowledge about the world around you.

Every week is a complete, stand-alone camp that covers a new theme and brings new interesting knowledge and activities. Thus, children can attend as many camps as they want and constantly learn and try something new.

The activities of each camp are chosen to maximize the student's vocabulary on the chosen topic, pump up communication skills in different situations, present a lot of useful information on the topic, and improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills. So, students will play games, act out, make group projects, and conduct hands-on experiments.

Early Years (K1-K2)

The first week of the camps’ seasons “Around the World Adventures” is dedicated to the journeys. Apart from academic activities like guided reading and phonics advancement, kids will also explore the geography and cultures of different countries, learn to write postcards, conduct STEM experiments, and take part in role-plays and interactive games.

The examples of some other weekly camps of the Early Years are:

"Ahoy! Pirate Adventures" is the second camp and, as the name suggests, young pirates will follow the treasure map to the treasure trove of learning experiences, singing pirate songs, describing their pirate characters, and playing engaging language games.

“Nature Explorers” will research the caterpillar life cycle and explore the wonders of this transformation first-hand with the help of hands-on craft activities. This camp nurtures emotional and scientific intelligence as children learn to express themselves through dialogues, roleplay, music, and poetry.

Primary (P1-P2)

Here each week will be dedicated to the development of a specific skill, be it writing or speaking. For example, the first weekly camp is filled with activities that improve creative speaking. As a result, on Monday children will explore Art and learn what language is used in the presentations. Tuesday is dedicated to Myths and fables, so students will learn how to follow the logical sequence of events, retell their favorite myths develop their captivating reading-aloud style, and so on.

Primary (P3 - P4)

Here camps also focus on the improvement of the writing and speaking skills. Thus, students will learn a lot about performing Arts, different music genres, myths, and presentations. During the first camp, students will use expressive and persuasive language to prepare a poster and deliver presentations on art and music, write a poem, use descriptive language to describe art, read aloud, and much more.

Primary (P5 - P6)

The older the students are, the more complex and comprehensive the course activities become. For example, one of the weekly camps dedicated to writing improves not just writing but also problem-solving skills and shows students how to sound more convincing and informative. Thus, children learn to cover topics that require answers to questions like What happened? What’s the issue? How does it happen? Why should I live there?

Using the topic of hometown problems as an example, students will learn how to use their writing to report, inform, instruct, and persuade the public.

Secondary

The Secondary camps always focus on building the student’s global mindset and development of oral and written communication skills essential for future career and academic success.

Thus, every week of the Winter camp for Secondary students will be dedicated to polishing some crucial academic skills as well as improving knowledge and problem-solving skills.

During winter, students will get the possibility to develop mastery over a wide array of non-fiction text types, including letters, reports, procedures, expositions, and explanations, confidently express themselves, persuasively communicate their ideas, engage in critical discussions, share well-informed opinions, etc.

Trust the professionals to improve your children's English and other subjects! Decades of experience and tens of thousands of satisfied students prove that the British Council Singapore is a go-to place when it comes to boosting language skills, improving academic performance, and personal enrichment.
