For 13 years now, Dubai Opera has hosted one of the most prominent performances within its walls - ‘Diverse’ by Diverse Performing Arts Centre. This annual multi-award-winning variety show represents the result of students' creative yearly work and is prepared at the level of Broadway shows. The concert program includes the performances of electrifying dancers, terrific singers, and Musical Theatre.
Young soon-to-be superstars delight the audience with the dances to the songs by Missy Elliot, Adele, Beyoncé, and GaGa, to name a few, vocal mash-up Daft Punk’ by Pentatonix, and a brilliant performance by Musical Theatre with excerpts from hit Broadway shows ‘Grease’, ‘Matilda’ and ‘Sponge Bob’.
We could not miss a chance to support the talented youth of Dubai and sent our Test Patrol family to watch the show and tell us their impressions,
Alifiya Aliasgar visited ‘Diverse 2023’ together with her daughter Nisreen (14 y.o.) and came back filled with emotions and inspiration.
First impressions
The show takes place at Dubai Opera - one of the most iconic cultural destinations of the city. The state-of-the-art architecture and interiors please the eye and put you in the right frame of mind. Such classy, luxurious, thrilling surroundings level a show up and you quickly forget that the performers are not professional singers and dancers, but students. And the audience creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that encourages little superstars to shine without stage fright.
Alifiya stated:
“Most of the crowd was friends and families of the performers, so the crowd was very warm and very encouraging with their thunderous applause and cheering”.

“We loved the show. It was very entertaining and had quite a variety of entertainment, something like a little bit for everyone. There were dances to popular songs, elegant ballet performances, and 2 musical performances of Grease & Matilda. Most of the performances were on popular songs, my child was singing along and enjoying herself to the max. Overall, it was quite an enjoyable experience.’
What element did impress Test Patrol the most?
Each show is the culmination of a year's work by the students and teachers of the school. Each performance is honed to perfection and helps students to showcase their talents and capabilities in the best possible way. However, everyone has their taste and preferences, so our patrol liked some of the performances more than others.
“The best performance in our opinion was of a dance presentation done by the children that was done in the dark using flashlights as props. It even had inspiring messages from famous women around the world on how we should use our voices against injustice and be united as one, irrespective of our color. We loved the way it was executed, a very different and unique concept that drove the point home.
My daughter was quite inspired to join the academy after seeing the wonderful performances of the evening. The performers were so well-trained and confident, they didn't seem like they were not professionals in their field”
