Stories Come to Life at Courtyard Playhouse’s October Half Term Camps

This October half term, Courtyard Playhouse is giving children the chance to swap screens for stories, imagination and the magic of theatre! Across two weeks of Half Term Camps, children will step into the world of beloved books, invent their own characters and stories, and discover where their creativity can take them when they have the freedom to play and perform.

Running 12–16 October and 19–23 October, the camps welcome children aged 4–14 for immersive weeks of drama, storytelling and creative play, guided by the theatre’s experienced drama instructors.

• For Youngest Campers (4–7), this year’s theme is “Kindness Makes Our Circle Bigger!” Through picture books such as Strictly No Elephants by Lisa Mantchev, Can I Join Your Club? by John Kelly, I Walk with Vanessa by Kerascoët, and The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson, children explore friendship, belonging, inclusion and the courage to make space for others. Each story provides inspiration for theatre games, role-play, movement, mime and other creative activities.
• Junior Actors's (8–11) adventure will begin with Brandon Sanderson’s Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians. Campers will explore a fantastical world of mischievous librarians, unusual heroes and extraordinary adventures while strengthening their performance skills, storytelling instincts and confidence on stage.
• Young Performers (12–14) will enter the wizarding world of Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, using the much-loved series as a springboard for creating their own characters, scenes and stories. Through drama games and performance exercises, children develop confidence, communication and collaboration skills, while learning to think on their feet.

Whatever their age, children will gain much more than performance experience. Throughout the camps, they’ll practise listening and collaborating, making creative choices, embracing mistakes and building stories together — all in the supportive environment of a real working theatre.

And there’s a special finale: each camp week ends with a showcase on the final day, giving parents the opportunity to see the characters, stories and performances their children have created during the week.
