The Competition for Alumni
Dubai Real Estate Institute in collaboration with FIABCI is pleased to launch "Happy Cities" Competition to be held at the FIABCI’s 69th World Congress, April 30th - May 2nd 2018 in Dubai, UAE. FIABCI World Congress is the leading international real estate conference. The Congress brings together stakeholders from across the industry to forge new relationships, share emerging trends, and grow their business. This year’s theme, "Happy Cities," will share best practices through dialogue, and panelist discussions.
The Competition is intended to celebrate the theme of happy, smart and innovative cities; ones that demonstrate effective and sustainable use of resources along with creating inclusive cities, in which people can live, work and play happily.
The Competition will consider the following options:
- A-Projects that describe the plan, design of a full city/a community from scratch with that theme inmind, or
- B-Projects that propose an urban intervention within an existing city/community to achievemeasureable improvements in happiness.
- DREI will accept applications for nomination of a project from Universities.
Application for Nomination
Applicants interested in participating in the "Happy Cities" Competition, should fill the application (Page 2) and submit with supporting photos and designs in electronic form to The Dubai Real Estate Institute at: competition@dubailand.gov.ae no later than 05 April 2018.•Winning project/s will be informed by 10 April 2018 and prizes will be distributed to the owners of the projects and their designers or their representatives during FIABCI World Congress 2018 in Dubai.
Awards
- First place winner gets a free entry ticket to attend the FIABCI’s 69th World Congress, April 30th – May 2nd 2018 in Dubai, U.A.E and wins a monetary prize of $ 3,000. The winner will getthe chance to present the project at the FIABCI World Congress.
- Second place winner gets a free entry ticket to attend the FIABCI’s 69th World Congress, April 30th – May 2nd 2018 in Dubai, U.A.E and wins a monetary prize of $1,500. Application for Submission
1. What do you propose to do? (up to 2000 words)
- Describe your project design and phases of implementation.
- Describe the target neighborhood (or region): morphological, demographical, and site analysis if available.
2. How will you measure the impact of your project on happiness? (up to 500 words)
- Describe the happiness metrics you propose to use.
- Describe your methodology for measuring the impact of your project on these metrics.
3. How will your project support improved happiness in the community? (up to 1000 words)
4. How will your project address sustainability and inclusivity? (up to 1000 words)
5. What role should the real estate industry play in building happier cities? (up to 500 words)
6. What else should the judges know about your project? (up to 500 words)
7. What are the key implications of your project for the Arab region? (up to 500 words)
- Describe the key message of the project that can inspire further projects for other cities/communities in the Arab Region.
8. Provide images, site plans, and renderings.
All plans, maps and analysis should be attached in A3 format (maximum 3-4 papers).
- Option A (City/Community Design) – Include plans, analytical maps, and images.
- Option B (Urban Intervention) – Include before and after images, plans and maps
