Code Club HK is Hong Kong's local chapter of a worldwide network of free volunteer-led after school coding clubs for children aged 9-11.
At Code Club, they think all children should have the opportunity to learn to code, no matter who they are or where they come from. To do this, they work with volunteers who lead extracurricular coding clubs, which aim to inspire children to build and share their ideas, learning along the way.
Their aim is to create a generation of digital makers by giving every child the opportunity to learn to code for free. They want children to leave Code Club inspired to pursue other digital making activities, whether that’s in their spare time, in school or as a career. They want them to gain skills that are useful to them – not only learning to program, but also learning about computational thinking, problem solving, planning, designing and collaboration.
They encourage everyone to join the Code Club community and get local children coding.
They create fun and engaging projects for their volunteers to use in their Code Clubs. These projects teach children how to program by showing them how to make computer games, animations and websites. Their projects are easy to follow step-by-step guides which help children learn Scratch, HTML & CSS and Python by making games, animations, and websites. The projects gradually introduce coding concepts to allow children to build their knowledge incrementally, meaning there’s also no need for the adult running the session to be a computing expert.
Their volunteers go to their local club for an hour a week and teach one project a week – clubs may be run in schools, and community venues such as libraries.
