Who they are
Dove Tales Theatre Company is Hong Kong’s premier children’s theatre touring company offering original English language musicals and dramas based on classic English literature to students of all ages and levels. The actors are all professional native English speaking actors and are trained to adapt and vary their performance according to the audience’s English levels and reactions. Although school offers a wide variety of plays in different genres and styles, they all have one thing in common: they are created to involve the audience - whether emotionally, physically or verbally or, most frequently, all three at the same time.
What they do
Dove Tales Theatre Company offer a “personalized and customized” English speaking educational theatre for students of English. Each play comes with its own educational packet, which contains preparation material to use before the performance as well as follow-up work for afterwards. These educational packets are designed for the student’s age and English level. They write, rehearse and perform all the plays with the age, the level of English, Band Level of the school, and the needs of the English teaching panels in mind.
How they do it
School provides all the technical equipment, technician, performers, sets, large backdrop, costumes, and props. They also provide the ability for teachers to select a few student volunteers to be included in the drama. On the day of the show the actors arrive an hour or so prior to the performance to set up all the equipment and do a sound check for their audio equipment (and train their student volunteers to perform). After the show, if the school chooses, they set aside time to take some pictures and do a Question and Answer session in which one of their performers will lead the audience, encouraging them to ask questions and engage with the performers. The plays are prepared to last approximately 50 minutes to one hour. The exact running time depends upon the audience. As actors involve them directly in plays their contribution obviously affects the final length of the performance.
