There is a beautiful myth in ancient Chinese folk stories, that two star-crossed lovers will end up transformed into a pair of butterflies in their after-life.
In this concert, the Ponte Orchestra is going to present three most outstanding contemporary Chinese orchestral works based on this beautiful myth. In the first half of the concert, Insect World – a remarkable work by Mr Doming Lam, who is regarded as the father of modern Hong Kong composers, will be presented as a tribute and memory of his contribution to the development of modern music. Together in the first half of the concert is the most famous Chinese violin concerto – The Butterfly Lover Violin Concerto, presented by the 2nd associate concertmaster of HK Philharmonic, Mr. Wang Liang.
Iris Devoilee – a renowned composition by the most outstanding composer of the time - Qigang Chen will be performed. Chen used different musical colour in this music to describe how a lady transformed into a woman along the path of love. Soprano Solo Ms Louise Kwong, Ms Rachel Kwok and Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera Artist Ms Eugenea Cheung will join us.
