A prodigy dubbed “the Paganini of the trumpet”, Sergei Nakariakov stunned the world with his Salzburg Festival début at the age of 14 and has since been a regular guest at the most prestigious venues and festivals, working with top orchestras and conductors.
Many of today’s leading composers have written for him and his award-winning discography covers not only the trumpet repertoire but also transcriptions of violin, piano, cello and horn masterpieces. In his Hong Kong Sinfonietta début, the star trumpeter will play two concertos, including Jörg Widmann’s ad absurdum, probably the most difficult trumpet concerto ever written. Guest conductor Alexander Liebreich, Chief Conductor & Artistic Director of Polish National Radio Symphony, will also conduct the world première of Steve Hui’s new work that explores the relationship between music and ‘noise’.
Programme:
- Steve Hui: Crackle, Hiss, Hum, and Rumble (World première)
- Commissioned by Hong Kong Sinfonietta
- Jörg Widmann: ad absurdum – Concerto for Trumpet & Small Orchestra (2002) (Hong Kong première)
- Mozart: Horn Concerto No 4 in E-flat, K495 (Adapted for Flugelhorn)
