UNESCO global geopark is a unique natural area with special geological significance and natural and cultural landscapes.
The Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark is a single entity and comprises of the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region and Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region, which showcase the important geological themes of igneous rocks and sedimentary rocks respectively.
The other side of Hong Kong beauty is demonstrated through our local culture and heritage, valuable natural habitat and unique geographic landforms. We encourage the public to appreciate our natural green resources; to be more devoted to protect our environment; to make good use of our natural resources and to reduce pollution in order to create a sustainable future for our future generation.
You don’t have to be a rock buff to enjoy the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. Located in the East and Northeast New Territories, the park includes the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region and the Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region and showcases Hong Kong’s timeless and eerily beautiful landforms.
