They live all around us, outside or inside our homes, most of the time unnoticed, sometime feared. Some can lift up to 1000 times of their own bodyweight; some even do farming for life! They are… bugs!
With over 1 MILLION described species, insects are the most diverse group of organisms in the world and one of the most spectacular examples of evolution. Once look closer, you will see insects with colourful bodies or surprising sculptures, hair or shapes; and with amazing behaviour and ecologies!
This nature exploration class is jointly organised by Hong Kong Wetland Park and the Insect Biodiversity and Biogeography Laboratory from the University of Hong Kong. Join us for an incredible journey to the fantastic and unexpected world of insects!

Morning session: Lesson
The class will introduce the diversity, basic classification and physiology of each major order of insects. Participants will also learn about insect ecology and their function in environment or human society.
Afternoon session: Experience activity
To experience the work of entomology, participants will use various equipment and methods to collect insects in the field. With the guidance of tutors, participants can identify insects which are found in the Hong Kong Wetland Park
