Based on the autobiographical novels Comrade Kid and Grown-Ups and Velvet and Sawdust by Leelo Tungal
It is the 1950s in the Soviet Estonia during the Stalinist terror. Leelo's mother is taken away by soldiers one day. Leelo becomes confused in this odd two-faced world: Why is the man in black snooping around their home? Why is the Estonian flag forbidden? Is it an honour or a shame to be a Soviet pioneer? What she has to do to be a good kid?
