Lovely Notebook - DIY Stitched-bound Book

Create a stitched book by hand so you can record life events, pass on cultural wisdom, learn about characters, and improve oneself!

As an important carrier of ideology and culture, Chinese books have evolved over a long period of time and are now quite different from their earliest days when they were written on bamboo or silk. The birth of a stitched-bound book usually requires many processes such as cutting paper, brushing, folding, aligning, flattening, sizing, cutting, hole-punching, threading, stitching, and book-marking, more suitable for Xuan paper. This process seems quite complicated, but it helps you to appreciate the ingenuity and originality of ancient Chinese culture.

We want people to understand the ancients’ respect for books and knowledge by understanding how books have changed. By creating a stitched book, you are not only inheriting this traditional and classic binding technique, but you are also inheriting the spiritual nature of China.

  • Understand the evolution of the Chinese book
  • Know the origin of the Chinese character
  • Learn the basics of the stitched book
  • Create a DIY hand-painted stitched book
